Traditionally, asana were used by the yogis to develop a strong physical core which was essential for long periods of meditative sitting. Today, the benefits of a strong core are manifold.

HIPS WORKSHOP

Tight hips and hip pain are a common complaint, as most of our schedules require that we sit or stand for the greater part of the day.

This workshop

Uses asanas(postures) to bring mobility to our hips
Works on gradually opening the hips and adjoining muscles with yin-style poses
Provides a specially designed sequenced class focusing on hip-openers
Teaches you which postures are most beneficial to the hips and how to adapt these postures according to your body type and capabilities.
Teaches you a sequence of pranayama focusing on calming, working with nervousness, tension and fear.

Why practice Pranayama and Meditation?

It’s easy to confuse happiness, which is always an internal experience, with external things, persons or phenomena.
Ancient meditative traditions begin by helping one to slow down, simplify and turn your focus inward.
It enables you to access a calm inner being, and cultivate the qualities of awareness, light, equanimity, happiness, joy and peace, which exist in all of us.

What is Pranayama?

Pranayama is the ancient yogic art of regulating the breath. It's goal is to cease mental fluctuations, and give the yogi fitness of mind for concentration, and later, meditation.

What is Meditation?

Meditation is freeing the mind from all foreign intrusions, calming one’s thoughts, and being entirely at peace within one’s own head.

Recent scientific studies confirm the advantages of Pranayama and Meditation:

About inversions

Viparita karani, the concept behind inversion poses, is translated as meaning 'opposite process'. This refers to cultivating a different perspective: inversions, literally and figuratively, turn your views and thoughts on their head.

Ayurveda considers that many of the body's impurities are in the lower abdomen, so raising the feet above the head encourages gravity to move these impurities towards what the Ayurvedic system calls agni ('fire') – this particularly relates to our 'digestive fire', and so is located above our lower abdomen.

A lot of yoga is designed to help you change mental and physical habits. Who you are on the mat represents who you are in your daily life. Therefore, by increasing your ability to adapt to change, you escape old habitual reactions and responses, and further your capacity for growth.

This workshop:

Assists in ridding the body of impurities
Improves circulation of the entire body
Dispells fears about doing inversions, by working at your skills level in a supervised environment.
